Freediving at Caño Island
Looking for a freediving adventure? You’ll find it at Caño Island, about 21 miles off Uvita’s coast. From Uvita beach, a scenic boat ride takes you to this protected marine reserve, recognized as one of Costa Rica’s most important marine sanctuaries.
The island’s volcanic origin has shaped its underwater landscape with rocky formations, coral gardens, and sandy channels that attract a wide variety of marine species — including reef sharks, turtles, jacks, snapper, barracuda, and manta rays.
