I did a day of training with Charline and a day of spearfishing with Sylvain. It was an incredible experience.Charline started the day off with a bit of yoga/breathing exercises and we headed out on the boat. Charline was extremely patient and a very safe instructor. She helped me hit new depths and begin to overcome some bad habits from scuba diving.Sylvain was an awesome guide on the reef. He gave a great overview of the fish we saw, he is very conscious of the fish populations and was a vigilant safety diver. We harvested plenty of delicious fish for our week in Costa Rica. The care taken to the fish was first class. From shot through gutting/bleeding and the fish being on ice is less than 5 minutes. Sylvain also shared an excellent ceviche recipe!My fiance came along to snorkel and watch from the surface. She is still talking about the experience and maybe taking a free diving course in the future!Last but certainly not least is the captain and crew. They were eagle eyed observers from the boat and never far from us in the water. Incredible attention to detail. This is truly a top notch operation and we will certainly be back. Next time we'll bring friends! Thank you so much!
We spent a day with Charline completing the Basic Freediver course. It was a great experience and challenged us to push ourselves with new skills. Freediving is the best way to get out on the water and experience the South Pacific Coast. Im so stoked to have had the opportunity to go out with this crew.Freediving Uvita offers great service, skilled and Bilingual guides, they have a great shop with all the gear you need including Spearguns, fins, goggles, wetsuits etc.I took the wave 1 free diving course with Hans. He was so skilled and mindful in his teaching, practice and mentorship. I gained so much knowledge and confidence in the water in just a few days. Im feeling ready and stoked to do some spearfishing. I participated in the Advanced Spearo course with Freediving Uvita and am so glad I went this route. The knowledge passed to me from my instructor Sylvain was not only helpful, but included things I wouldn’t have thought about had I just tried going out on my own. Not only did I learn local fish hunting tactics, but I was able to get in the water and hunt to gain first hand experience with how the fish react and move when in the open water and within the reef. I was able to get fish for dinner which was a very fulfilling dinner knowing we worked so hard to make the ethical catches. I look forward to more trips and more training for free diving to help me improve in both areas. I could not recommend them more!
We tried freediving for the first time and did the discovery dive, which was perfect for beginners. Charlene explained everything very clearly and thoroughly and we started slowly and worked our way down to 10 m with no prior experience. The experience was great! 🙂
Had a brilliant day out at Caño Island with the Freediving Uvita crew last last week. Seb was super knowledgeable about the local wildlife and knew all the spots to look for turtles and sharks. The boat , equipment and safety were excellent. A great crowd of people to spend the day with. Big thanks to Seb, Charline, Hans ,Sylvain and the rest of the crew. Highly recommend getting in touch if you’re in Uvita or nearby.
Just got back from a spearfishing trip with the team. Great vibes all morning, I felt super safe and well-taken-care-of. Sylvain and the crew are the right team for the job, that's for sure. Also, speared 4 fish while getting to see 3 different reefs all in one morning! Epic!

What an amazing experience taking the first certification with Freediving Uvita. Charline and Sylvain are a great team, and their new boat was great to experience for these dives. Charline was my instructor and she is great. She has such a calm personality which really helped while I was out in the ocean and processing the small reminders to feel comfortable and confident in Freediving. Uvita is a really special place to experience Freediving. Looking back at the jungle as you ride the boat is pretty surreal!
I visited because I needed a swimming cap for body surfing. Nice shop with friendly staff. They don't always open up at 7:30 a.m. so call first if you're coming early.
I made the Freediving PADI Level I course. On the first day during the pool session, I had the opportunity to push my limits beyond what I believed was possible for me. Charline had the right approach with patience and motivation, so I could achieve the requirements. During the dive in the ocean on the second day, I haven't achieved the 10 m deep dive requirement. But it was just because I listened to my body's limits and that is also what you are encouraged to do from the beginning. All in all, it was an amazing experience and I'm looking forward to reach the depth of 10 m when I'm ready.

Had an amazing day with this team! They were informative, fun, professional, and super encouraging. To be honest I was thinking of stopping after a few dives because I couldn’t get the hang of it at first. Sylvain offered me a new perspective, a visualization exercise and on my last dive I hit 10 meters. Highly recommended!

Charline was awesome! My daughter and I did the Padi freediving certification course. First day was dry land training and some pool time. Second day was open water training in the ocean. Thought Charline was very knowledgeable and worked hard to make this a great experience. Equipment was in good condition and the boat crew did a great job too. Would definitely recommend Freediving Uvita.
I was so happy to discover that there is freediving in Uvita!! I went with my husband and the amazing team on a trip to Caño Island. We had amazing visibility and saw fantastic wildlife including big colourful fish and sharks. A few weeks later we also did Level 1 Certification. Everything was clearly and beautifully explained and facilitated. We will definitely be diving with Freedive Uvita again if we are around.
My husband and I had the great pleasure of experiencing both the pool discovery and Cano Island session with Freediving Uvita by Charlene and Sylvain. Charlene's guidance during the pool discovery session was invaluable. She has showed us techniques for breathwork, fin usage, and relaxation. The following day, our journey to Cano Island exceeded all expectations. 🙂 We had two diving sessio and a nice pit stop on the island. We were impressed by the kindness, professionalism and support provided by Charlene and Sylvain. The tour included a delicious lunch and local alcohol-free drinks and snacks. What truly set this apart from a tipical 'tourist experience' was the sense of community fostered by our hosts and the relaxation experienced while exploring the depths of the ocean. On top it off, we have received high-quality photos and videos provided afterwards! Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and we would love to return to practice with our hosts! A huge thanks to Charlene and Sylvain for this experience - we wish them continued success!!
Amazing and stress free trip out to Cano island with Freediving Uvita. Aside from the incredibly clear waters and beautiful things to look at, they also take incredible video and photos during the trip. Highly recommend them for an incredible experience.
I did the freediving PADI course with Charlene and appreciate the professional approach and passion for marine life that she shares - its been also great pleasure to go on a trip to Cano Island with Silvan and Charlene - the experience of swimming with giant mantas and pictures that followed was special and still carries me.
I am SO grateful for my experiences with Freediving Uvita. My friend and I opted to do a freediving training with them, and then a visit to Caño island. They were helpful, accommodating, and a lot of fun to work with throughout the entire process. I highly recommend coupling the training with a visit/tour of Caño island because you are able to expand your freediving practice, feel more comfortable with the gear, get to know the boat crew, and connect with a lot of marine life. We saw sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, and tons of amazing fish. We also received beautiful underwater footage as part of our booking at no additional cost which was awesome!Overall, I learned so much and explored new limits within myself. In huge part because of the informative yet easy going nature of the team. It left a lot of room for encouragement without pressure. I would absolutely do it again, and recommend anyone wanting to explore the waters of Costa Rica to train with Freediving Uvita!
Really a great team, very friendly, very professional.We had a truly magical time with the manta rays because we really came to meet them and it was done thanks to Sylvain and Charline who took great care,Sylvain takes great photos, but, and that's why I only put 4 stars and not 5, none that concerned us with the rays and yet the opportunities were there, too bad for the most important memory of the session.. .And also for the price, we found the outing too short, there was still a lot of time before fatigue and what was announced at the start,at least an hour and I think it could have lasted even longer, it's dark at 5 p.m. and the road is long to cãno for maybe too...But despite this the team is so great that we will come back with them next year because it is really worth the detour,thank you sylvain and charline!
I completed my free diving certification with Charleen, and it took a total of two days: the first day was spent in pool training, and the second in open water. I had an amazing time during the course, discovering new capabilities of my body. Charleen was clear and patient in her explanations, always ready to repeat and demonstrate drills if needed. Most importantly, I felt safe and comfortable with her, and I'm excited to continue diving with Freediving Uvita.

Our day diving with Charline and Sylvian was one of the highlights of our trip here in Costa Rica. We spent the day diving at Caño island with a group of freedivers. The day was awesome and we saw dolphins, turtles and brown boobys on the boat ride over.Their amazing local guide Sebas had tons of knowledge to share. We got very lucky and dove with many sea turtles and reef sharks. To top it all off they got a bunch of amazing photos of us diving that we will cherish. Can’t recommend these two enough!

Super recommended for all those people who want to start or know more about free diving; I took a two-day course (1 day pool session, 2 day open water in the ocean) on the recommendation of a friend as a beginner without having any knowledge of the subject and I really enjoyed and learned a lot thanks to the instructor Silvany, an experience that without I certainly want to repeat where you will learn several techniques that will help you improve in just a couple of days.The practice in open water or in the ocean takes place within the waters of the Marino Ballena National Park, which is an incredible place, with the best visibility and with luck you will also be able to see other animals such as dolphins, turtles, fish and even whales during the season.The super professional instructor, patient and very clear with his instructions, in addition to always accompanying you and making you feel safe at all times and with him you can also obtain your certification, I totally recommend this experience with Free Diving Uvita and I assure you that you will fall in love with this10/10
